How To Do The Criss Cross Scissor Kick Ab Exercise

The criss cross scissor kick is a variation of the scissor kick (or flutter kicks). Instead of moving your feet up and down with the traditional scissor kick you will be criss crossing your feet from side to side. The criss cross scissor kick is a great exercise that targets your lower abdominal region. The criss cross scissor kick can be performed anywhere with no special equipment although I do recommend you place a foam mat or towels down on the ground to lie on.

Position for the criss cross scissor kick

To start, lie down on the floor with your back flush against the ground. Keep your hands at your sides, behind your buttocks or on the front of your thighs. Keeping your head level and staring up, raise both legs until they are off of the ground.

Performing the criss cross scissor kick

With your legs in the air, start criss crossing your feet. Perform the prescribed amount of repetitions.

Breathing

Breathe in as you cross on leg under the other and breathe out as you cross the other leg over.

Important notes about the criss cross scissor kick

·         Keep your head level and eyes straight up – pick a spot on the ceiling and look at it through the duration of the movement. Don’t be tempted to look down

·         Keep constant tension on your abdominal region

·         Don’t interlock your hands behind your head (puts undue pressure on your neck)
